Prof. Martin L. Kyomo
Professor Martin Luther Kyomo - one of the Founding Members and Fellow of the Tanzania Academy of Sciences, and also a Fellow of the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World TWAS) was born on 3 March 1936 in Isoko Village, Iteje District, Mbeya Region. Prof Kyomo was an erudite scholar. He did his studies in agricultural sciences at Makerere University in Uganda and Colorado State University in the US. He obtained his PhD at the University of Dar es Salaam, in a joint programme with the University of Reading in England.
He was also holder of an honorary doctorate (honoris causa) from the Agricultural University of Norway. He did extensive work in livestock research in the government and at public universities. He served on several boards of international' agricultural research centers. He also served as director of the Southern African Center for Cooperation in Agricultural and Natural Resources and Training (SACCAR) of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) for nine years, and thereafter, he became a DANIDA technical advisor on cattle breeding in Uganda.
